In the first quarter of 2022, the performance of the leading communication apps in Germany showcased a mix of growth trends and active engagement. The following analysis, based on data from Sensor Tower, provides insights into the weekly downloads and active user metrics for the top five apps: Telegram, Messenger, Snapchat, WhatsApp Messenger, and Signal Private Messenger.

Telegram had a dynamic quarter with weekly downloads fluctuating from around 71K to over 107K. The app saw its peak in early March with 107.4K downloads. Active users also displayed an upward trend, increasing from approximately 5.1M at the beginning of the quarter to about 5.3M by mid-March.

Messenger experienced a relatively stable performance in terms of weekly active users, maintaining figures around 16.3M to 16.7M throughout the quarter. Downloads showed a gradual increase, peaking at 81.6K in the week of March 21. Revenue remained consistent, with earnings ranging from $1.1K to $2K weekly.

Snapchat showed a stable download rate, with weekly downloads hovering between 72K and 108.6K. Active user numbers were steady, averaging around 9.7M to 10.1M. Revenue saw a significant spike, particularly in the last week of March, reaching $649.
